‘The Man in the High Castle’ Season 2 Trailer: “Everything Will Be Fine”

America’s future is looking awfully murky right now, so why not enjoy a look back at our past? Not our actual past, though — a horrifying alternate version of our past in which the Allies lost World War II, leaving America to be taken over by Japan and Germany. Yep, The Man in the High Castle is on its way back to Amazon Video for season two, and we’ve got the new trailer right here.

Okay, so maybe The Man in the High Castle isn’t the most comforting binge-watch at this point in time. What seemed like an amusingly fantastical premise last year, suddenly feels a lot less distant in a world where our incoming president has earned the enthusiastic approval of actual Nazis. But there are glimmers of hope here, too, as our heroes refuse to take their oppression lying down.

Season one saw Juliana (Alexa Davalos) getting caught up in the American resistance after coming into possession of a film reel depicting a world where the Allied powers won World War II. The ten episodes went through plenty of twists and turns, culminating in a dramatic season finale that tossed one last bombshell into the mix: in the very last seen, Tagomi (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) opened his eyes to find himself in an alternate version of the 1960s (that is, a 1960s like the one we had in real life, where the Allies won the war).

So what can we expect from season two? Here’s the official synopsis:

Season two resumes with Juliana Crain (Alexa Davalos) facing the consequences of her decision to betray the Resistance and allow Joe Blake (Luke Kleintank), a suspected Nazi agent, to escape the Pacific States with a film originally bound for the Man in the High Castle. Joe himself returns a hero to the Reich and finds himself thrust into the Nazi capital of Berlin, face to face with the father who abandoned him. Meanwhile, Frank Frink (Rupert Evans) becomes increasingly radicalized and drawn further into the Resistance after seeing images of his own execution in the mysterious films.

With political tensions mounting between Germany and Japan, Trade Minister Tagomi (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) begins to regret his success in smuggling nuclear technology from the Reich and seeks solace in the strange new world he discovered at the end of season one. Meanwhile, Obergruppenführer John Smith (Rufus Sewell) struggles to reconcile the values of the Reich with the deteriorating health of his son — all while tasked with a mission from the Führer for which failure is not an option. And Chief Inspector Kido (Joel de la Fuente) begins to take greater interest in the Man in the High Castle, the films, and how Juliana Crain is connected to it all…

The Man in the High Castle season 2 hits Amazon Video on December 16.

Robert Downey Jr. Making Directorial Debut With ‘Singularity’, Starring Anthony Michael Hall

Watch Full Movies

After over thirty years in Hollywood, Robert Downey Jr. is ready to branch out into the next phase of his career: directing. Downey is set to make his debut on Singularity, a TV pilot featuring his Weird Science co-star Anthony Michael Hall. Downey and his wife Susan Downey are also producing through Team Downey Productions.

Team Downey announced Singularity as part of their first-look deal with Sonar Entertainment (via TheWrap). Details on Singularity are still under wraps, but with the high-profile talent on board we can probably expect to learn more before too long.

Although Downey has been starring in movies since the 1980s, and although he’s worked with some fantastic filmmakers including David Fincher, Oliver Stone, and Robert Altman, he’s only recently begun to take on bigger roles behind the scenes. 2014’s The Judge was the first project to come out of Team Downey, which he and Susan formed in 2010. Other projects in development from the company include Sherlock Holmes 3, a Perry Mason TV series for HBO, and a movie adaptation of the Black Mirror episode “An Entire History of You.”

Now that Downey’s jumped headfirst into producing, directing seems like an exciting next step. Lots of Hollywood stars try their hand at directing eventually, some with more success than others, and a TV pilot seems like a good place to start. Especially since Downey and Hall go way back — in addition to Weird Science, they have worked together in 1988’s Johnny Be Good and 1994’s Hail Caesar (not to be confused with 2016’s Hail, Caesar!), as well as the 1985-1986 season of Saturday Night Live.

When Singularity will get going isn’t clear. Downey’s currently quite busy, with Avengers: Infinity War shooting soon and Sherlock Holmes 3 on his to-do list sometime after that. Hall will be seen later this year in Ben Affleck’s Live by Night, and next year in David Michôd’s War Machine.
